Higg Index Tools were developed by The Sustainable Apparel Coalition. Manufacturers use the Higg Facility Tools to measure the social and environmental performance of their facilities. These modules measure impacts at individual factories, not the parent company as a whole. Users conduct the assessments at least once a year, and these assessments are then verified by SAC-approved, on-site assessors. Bench marking by facility type allows facility managers to compare their performance against that of their peers. This is an important tool for all apparel companies to be come a part of to help share the information between brands. This is particularly important to ease audit fatigue, this is when factories are constantly adjusting to meet the needs of various stands (ie. height of fire extinguisher) rather than spending time to improve the conditions of the workers. Facility safety is important but we need to trust the audits of others to get the best results for our factories and the workers.
